Brazilian biotechnology startup BioLinker has successfully raised $1.7 million in a new funding round, marking a significant milestone for the company as it looks to expand its synthetic biology operations, scale up DNA production, and pioneer artificial intelligence applications within the Brazilian Amazon region.
The latest investment round was spearheaded by Axcell, which contributed $1.4 million to the enterprise. Additional backing came from the São Paulo Research Foundation, known as FAPESP, which provided approximately $240,000 through its PIPE Phase 2 program, a well-known initiative designed to support innovative research and development projects within small businesses in the state of São Paulo.
Founded in 2018 by a team of visionary scientists and researchers from the University of São Paulo, BioLinker specializes in the development and manufacturing of recombinant proteins. Utilizing cutting-edge techniques in synthetic biology and genetic engineering, the company creates high-value biological products that play a critical role in supporting academic and commercial research, advanced diagnostics, and various industrial applications. Over the years, the startup has positioned itself as an emerging player in Latin America’s life sciences sector, bridging the gap between advanced academic research and scalable commercial applications.

With the newly acquired capital, BioLinker has set its sights on a major infrastructural expansion. The company plans to build an advanced, highly automated laboratory located at the Amazon BioBusiness Center, situated in the city of Manaus. This strategic geographic placement places the startup directly within one of the world’s most biodiverse regions, allowing it to leverage regional potential while contributing to technological development in northern Brazil. The upcoming facility will heavily integrate robotics to generate biological data at scale. This influx of data will be instrumental in training sophisticated artificial intelligence models, a move that is expected to accelerate research cycles and significantly expand the domestic production of DNA within Brazil.
In tandem with its technological and physical expansion, BioLinker is preparing for a notable increase in its human capital. The startup intends to double the size of its internal workforce, growing its team from its current 12 employees to 24 professionals. This expansion will encompass various technical, scientific, and operational roles necessary to support the company’s ambitious roadmap in automation, synthetic biology, and artificial intelligence integration.
Despite the successful injection of capital from Axcell and FAPESP, BioLinker’s current funding round remains actively open. Company leadership is currently seeking a strategic international investor to come on board and support its broader expansion efforts. This outreach is part of a longer-term financial strategy ahead of a planned Series A funding round, which the startup aims to execute within the next two years.
Operating on a solid financial foundation, BioLinker already generates recurring revenue through its existing commercial operations. Management expects that the combination of its current revenue streams and the fresh capital secured in this latest funding round will comfortably finance three years of uninterrupted operations, giving the startup ample runway to achieve its technological milestones and establish its new automated laboratory in Manaus.
