Uruguayan Carpooling Startup Viatik Secures $600K in Over-Subscribed Funding Round to Accelerate Expansion in Argentina

Viatik, an innovative Uruguayan carpooling startup designed to connect drivers and passengers traveling between cities, has successfully raised $600,000 in its latest funding round, comfortably surpassing its initial target of $500,000. The financing milestone marks a significant step forward for the young company as it looks to scale its operations and deepen its market penetration across the region, with a particular focus on the Argentine market, which currently drives the vast majority of its business activity.

The funding round drew participation from a prominent group of institutional venture capital firms, innovation agencies, and experienced angel investors. Among the institutional backers were Plug and Play, a globally recognized early-stage investor and corporate innovation platform; Picante, an active regional fund; and Uruguay’s National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), a key public institution supporting technological advancement and entrepreneurial growth in the country. In addition to these institutional players, the round was strongly supported by a roster of notable angel investors, including Rubén Sosenke, Alan Descoins, Federico Lavagna, Mariano Otero, and Iang Yim, whose collective expertise and strategic insights are expected to further bolster Viatik’s growth trajectory in the competitive Latin American transportation and mobility sector.

Founded in 2022, Viatik entered the market to address the logistical and economic challenges of intercity travel. The startup’s proprietary digital platform connects drivers who have empty seats in their vehicles with passengers heading in the same direction, creating a shared mobility network that benefits both parties economically while promoting more efficient resource utilization on regional highways. To ensure a secure and reliable user experience, the Viatik application incorporates verified user profiles, a comprehensive rating system for both drivers and passengers, and integrated digital payment options that streamline transactions and eliminate the friction of handling cash during long-distance journeys.

Viatik raises $600K to expand in Argentina

While the company originated in Uruguay, its strategic focus has increasingly shifted toward neighboring Argentina, a market that has demonstrated massive demand for reliable and cost-effective intercity transportation alternatives. At present, the Argentine market accounts for nearly 90 percent of all transactions processed through Viatik’s platform. The overwhelming demand in Argentina has provided the startup with fertile ground for rapid scaling, prompting management to direct the newly acquired capital primarily toward expanding its footprint and operational capacity within the country.

The growth metrics coming out of Argentina over the past year underscore the immense potential that investors saw in the startup. Between June and September 2026, Viatik experienced a remarkable sixfold increase in its transaction volume within Argentina. This exponential surge highlights how effectively the platform is capturing market share and solving everyday mobility needs for commuters and travelers moving between major Argentine cities and regional hubs.

Further illustrating the velocity of its adoption in the country, Viatik recently reached a major operational milestone by scaling to 1,000 monthly seats on its popular route between Salta and Jujuy in less than three weeks. Such rapid community uptake demonstrates the vital role the platform plays in connecting regional populations where traditional public transportation options may be limited, costly, or less flexible than what modern travelers demand.

With the fresh capital secured from Plug and Play, Picante, ANII, and its syndicate of angel investors, Viatik is well-positioned to build upon this momentum. The company plans to deploy the $600,000 to further optimize its technology infrastructure, enhance user safety and verification protocols, and support targeted expansion initiatives designed to capture even greater market share across Argentina and potentially explore broader regional opportunities in the future.
