Chilean Legaltech Startup Magnar Secures $8 Million Series A to Fuel Expansion Across Latin America

Chilean legaltech startup Magnar has successfully closed an $8 million Series A funding round to accelerate its regional growth and technological development. The investment round was co-led by venture capital firms 6 Degrees Capital and Hi Ventures, with participation from a robust group of regional and international backers, including FEN Ventures, Platanus Ventures, Nascent Ventures, and prominent law firm Beccar Varela.

Founded just over a year ago, Magnar has quickly carved out a notable niche in the legal technology sector by developing an advanced artificial intelligence platform specifically tailored to the needs of legal professionals across Latin America. The platform is designed to streamline some of the most time-consuming aspects of legal practice, helping lawyers conduct comprehensive research into local legislation and relevant case law, analyze complex legal information, and efficiently draft and review critical documents.

Unlike generic artificial intelligence tools that may lack regional context, Magnar’s software integrates seamlessly with widely used productivity applications such as Microsoft Word and Outlook. Crucially, the platform operates using localized legal sources specific to each market it serves, ensuring that professionals receive accurate, context-aware assistance tailored to the unique legal frameworks, civil codes, and procedural rules of their respective jurisdictions.

Magnar raises $8M Series A

The newly secured capital will be deployed across several key strategic initiatives aimed at scaling the company’s operations. Magnar plans to significantly expand its core development team to continuously improve its product capabilities and maintain its technological edge. In addition to bolstering its infrastructure, the company will use the funds to deepen its existing market presence in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Uruguay, where it has already established a strong foothold.

Beyond its current markets, the Series A funding will facilitate Magnar’s highly anticipated entry into Brazil and Mexico. These two countries represent massive opportunities for the legaltech firm, boasting a combined total of approximately 1.9 million practicing lawyers. To capture market share in these two economic powerhouses, Magnar plans to establish physical offices and build dedicated local commercial teams capable of driving adoption among regional law firms and corporate legal departments.

The startup’s rapid ascent is reflected in its current operational metrics. Magnar currently serves around 30,000 active users and maintains active partnerships with 350 law firms distributed across its seven operational countries in Latin America. By expanding into Brazil and Mexico, the company aims to multiply its reach across the continent’s most populous legal markets.

Andrés Arellano, CEO of Magnar, emphasized the company’s localized approach to legal technology in the wake of the funding announcement. He noted that the startup was built from the ground up with the specific realities of the region’s legal practitioners in mind, taking into account their unique legal codes, native languages, and daily workflows. According to Arellano, this successful funding round will allow the company to channel additional human talent and financial resources into building an even more robust platform for existing users, while simultaneously bringing these innovations to a broader audience of lawyers throughout Latin America.
