Brazilian biotechnology startup BioLinker has successfully raised $1.7 million in a new funding round as the company works to scale its operations, advance synthetic biology capabilities, and establish a pioneering presence in the northern region of the country. The fresh capital injection is set to accelerate the startup’s mission of transforming how recombinant proteins and synthetic DNA are produced for research, diagnostic, and industrial applications.
The funding round was spearheaded by Axcell, which contributed $1.4 million to the total amount. Additional financial backing came from the São Paulo Research Foundation, known as FAPESP, which provided approximately $240,000 through its PIPE Phase 2 program, a government-backed initiative designed to support innovative research and development in small businesses.
Founded in 2018 by a group of scientists and researchers from the University of São Paulo, BioLinker specializes in the development and manufacturing of recombinant proteins. By leveraging cutting-edge techniques in synthetic biology and genetic engineering, the company creates biological components that serve as critical building blocks for academic research, medical and commercial diagnostics, and various industrial biotech processes.

With the newly secured capital, BioLinker is embarking on a strategic expansion into the heart of Brazil’s rainforest region. The startup plans to utilize a significant portion of the funds to build an advanced, automated laboratory located at the Amazon BioBusiness Center in Manaus. This new facility represents a major milestone for the company, incorporating sophisticated robotics designed to generate biological data at scale. This influx of data will be instrumental in training artificial intelligence models, bridging the gap between advanced computational technology and molecular biology. Furthermore, the Manaus laboratory will significantly boost BioLinker’s capacity to expand DNA production domestically within Brazil, reducing reliance on foreign supply chains and fostering local technological self-sufficiency.
Alongside its technological and physical expansion, BioLinker is also focusing on scaling its human capital. The company plans to double its current workforce, growing its team from 12 to 24 employees by bringing in top-tier talent across biotechnology, engineering, data science, and laboratory operations.
Despite closing this latest injection of capital, BioLinker’s funding round remains actively open. The startup is currently seeking a strategic international investor to support its broader global expansion strategy. This ongoing fundraising effort is designed to pave the way for a much larger Series A funding round anticipated within the next two years.
Operating on a solid business foundation, BioLinker already generates recurring revenue through its commercialized products and services. Company leadership expects that the newly acquired capital will comfortably sustain operations for the next three years, providing the team with the financial runway needed to focus on research, technological development, and market penetration without immediate pressure for short-term liquidity. As BioLinker establishes its new footprint in Manaus and continues to integrate artificial intelligence with synthetic biology, the startup positions itself as a growing player in Latin America’s evolving biotechnology landscape.
