Brazilian Healthtech Alice Secures $40 Million in Series D Funding to Accelerate AI-First Strategy

Brazilian healthtech innovator Alice has successfully raised $40 million in a Series D funding round led by the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group focused on private sector development in emerging markets. The financing event also drew participation from a robust group of international development finance institutions and returning backers, including DEG, Finnfund, and existing venture capital investors Kaszek, ThornTree Capital, and Canary. This fresh infusion of capital builds upon Alice’s previous major funding milestone, the Series C round secured in 2021, which was led by SoftBank and positioned the company for rapid scaling within Latin America’s competitive healthcare landscape.

Alice operates as an alternative health insurance provider that fundamentally reimagines the traditional healthcare experience by seamlessly combining comprehensive medical care, advanced proprietary technology, and granular patient data. Rather than acting merely as a traditional payer that reimburses medical expenses, Alice functions as an active coordinator of patient health. The company leverages cutting-edge artificial intelligence to optimize patient care pathways, automate routine administrative workflows, and significantly reduce operational overhead. By streamlining these processes, Alice aims to make high-quality, data-driven healthcare more efficient and accessible to a broader segment of the Brazilian population.

Alice raises $40M Series D led by IFC

With the newly secured $40 million, Alice plans to aggressively expand its artificial intelligence capabilities, most notably through the further development and deployment of Alice AI. This sophisticated virtual assistant is deeply integrated directly into the company’s proprietary mobile application, serving as a central hub for members navigating their health journeys. The assistant utilizes patients’ encrypted medical records and health histories to deliver highly personalized guidance, answer health-related queries, and proactively connect members with appropriate telemedicine services, specialized physicians, and partner hospitals when care is required. This integration of AI is designed to minimize friction in the healthcare system, ensuring that patients receive the right level of care precisely when they need it.

The company’s growth trajectory over the past few years underscores the rising demand for tech-enabled healthcare solutions in Brazil. Alice currently serves a rapidly expanding membership base exceeding 100,000 active members. This represents a dramatic expansion from approximately 6,000 members in 2021, illustrating the company’s capability to scale its operations significantly despite broader macroeconomic shifts in the venture capital ecosystem. Concurrently, Alice’s financial metrics reflect this robust user acquisition and retention, with the company’s annual recurring revenue surpassing the $220 million mark alongside a steady annual growth rate of approximately 70 percent.

The backing from globally recognized development institutions such as the International Finance Corporation, DEG, and Finnfund highlights a growing confidence in business models that leverage technology to solve systemic challenges in emerging market health sectors. For Alice, the strategic involvement of these organizations provides not only financial capital but also valuable governance and strategic support as the company looks to consolidate its market position. As Alice continues to integrate advanced artificial intelligence deeper into its product ecosystem, the company remains focused on scaling its operations while maintaining the high standards of personalized care that have fueled its growth from an early-stage startup into a major player in Brazil’s healthtech sector.
