Brazilian biotechnology startup BioLinker has successfully raised $1.7 million in a new funding round, marking a significant milestone for the company as it looks to expand its synthetic biology operations and artificial intelligence capabilities. The investment was led by venture capital firm Axcell, which contributed $1.4 million, alongside a substantial grant of approximately $240,000 from the São Paulo Research Foundation, known as FAPESP, through its PIPE Phase 2 program.
Founded in 2018 by a team of visionary scientists from the University of São Paulo, BioLinker specializes in the development and manufacturing of recombinant proteins using advanced synthetic biology and genetic engineering techniques. The company’s innovative products and solutions are designed to support a wide array of vital sectors, including scientific research, clinical diagnostics, and various industrial applications. By streamlining the creation of custom proteins, BioLinker has positioned itself as an emerging player in Latin America’s life sciences sector, bridging the gap between cutting-edge academic research and commercial market needs.
With the fresh capital secured from Axcell and FAPESP, BioLinker is setting its sights on ambitious regional and technological expansion. The startup plans to utilize a significant portion of the funding to construct a state-of-the-art, automated laboratory located at the Amazon BioBusiness Center in Manaus. This strategic location places the company within a unique ecosystem that blends biodiversity with technological innovation. The new facility will leverage advanced robotics to generate biological data at scale. This massive influx of data will be instrumental in training specialized artificial intelligence models, allowing BioLinker to enhance its synthetic biology workflows and significantly expand DNA production capabilities within Brazil.

In addition to building the automated laboratory in Manaus, BioLinker is preparing for substantial organizational growth. The company intends to double the size of its workforce, scaling its team from its current 12 employees to 24 professionals. This expansion will bring in specialized talent across biotechnology, robotics, data science, and engineering, reinforcing the startup’s operational backbone as it transitions into its next phase of commercial development.
Despite closing this latest injection of capital, BioLinker’s funding round remains actively open. The startup is currently seeking a strategic international investor to support its broader global expansion initiatives. This ongoing fundraising effort is part of a larger roadmap leading up to a planned Series A funding round within the next two years.
Operating on a solid financial foundation, BioLinker currently generates recurring revenue from its existing product and service offerings. Company leadership expects that the newly acquired capital, combined with its ongoing revenue streams, will be sufficient to fully fund three years of uninterrupted operations, providing the stability and runway needed to achieve its long-term research, development, and commercialization goals.
