The year 2026 is proving to be a truly pivotal chapter in the artistic journey of Mexican singer Majo Aguilar. Carrying forward a legendary family name while carving out an entirely distinct and contemporary identity within regional Mexican music, Aguilar has steadily built momentum through major career milestones. From winning Premio Lo Nuestro’s female artist of the year award in February and securing two nominations at the upcoming HEAT Latin Music Awards to signing an exclusive global publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group Mexico, the rising star is operating at the absolute peak of her creative powers. Now, she is preparing for what stands as one of the most significant live performances of her life: her debut headlining appearance at the prestigious Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City on November 13.
For an artist deeply rooted in the traditions of her homeland, stepping onto the stage of the capital city’s legendary venue is much more than a routine concert booking; it is a profound cultural rite of passage.
“I’m so excited to perform at this iconic place, accompanied by mariachi and banda,” Aguilar shares, reflecting on the magnitude of the upcoming engagement. “It’s a gift from life that I’m embracing wholeheartedly.”
As the granddaughter of legendary ranchera music icon Antonio Aguilar, Majo represents the continuation of a revered musical dynasty. Yet, rather than relying solely on the weight of her family’s illustrious history, she has spent years forging her own path, blending deep reverence for classic sounds with a fresh, emotive vocal delivery. On November 13, she will step onto the historic stage to deliver timeless classics of Mexican music alongside fan-favorite hits from her own growing repertoire, including standout tracks such as “No Voy a Llorar,” “Lo Busqué,” and “Cuéntame.” To elevate the evening even further, she will be joined by a yet-to-be-revealed lineup of special guest artists.
A Double Release Strategy and Deepening Roots
The timing of the Auditorio Nacional concert aligns perfectly with a major rollout of new recorded material. Just one day before she takes the iconic stage, Aguilar will release her highly anticipated new album, Caprichos. The project features a carefully curated collection of covers paying homage to Mexican staples, including fresh interpretations of beloved tracks like “A Través del Vaso,” “Así Fue,” and “Se Me Olvidó Otra Vez.” True to her artistic vision, these covers are delivered through a distinctive lens defined by her deep vocal tone and intense emotional delivery. Alongside these interpretations, the album will also feature two original compositions written entirely by Aguilar herself.
Her presence in the studio will extend beyond her own solo projects before the year draws to a close. Aguilar is officially slated to record a track for the third installment of Tributo al Rey Vicente Fernández, an ongoing series of collaborative records that bridges the timeless voice of the late King of Ranchera Music with the fresh talents of emerging stars in the modern regional Mexican landscape.
The honor of participating in the tribute underscores the deep respect she commands among her peers and industry veterans alike. Reflecting on the enduring nature of the genre, Aguilar emphasizes that traditional Mexican sounds are perpetually relevant.
“Mariachi may sometimes be on the charts and sometimes not, but it’s everywhere,” she observes. “It will never die; it’s our music, and it’s forever. In fact, I’m very excited to be part of the next Tributo al Rey Vicente Fernández album. It’s an honor for me that Vicente Fernández Jr. invited me to sing one of his father’s songs. These songs are timeless.”
A Viral Cultural Moment in Mexico City
In addition to her musical accolades, Aguilar recently found herself at the center of an unexpected pop culture crossover that captured the attention of international media. Last September, during the Mexico City premiere of the film Digger, the singer was invited to make a special appearance and interact with Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise and acclaimed director Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Rather than sticking to standard promotional protocol, Aguilar surprised the high-profile guests by arriving with a full mariachi ensemble and performing an impromptu corrido that she had composed specifically for the occasion. The lighthearted, unexpected musical tribute quickly went viral across social media platforms, bridging global cinema and traditional Mexican performance art in a memorable, uniquely charming display.
Reflecting on the whirlwind experience, Aguilar recalls the moment with fondness. “I was invited to sing a corrido for the character Digger, but I asked if I could write it myself,” she explains. “It was short, but after singing it, I translated it for Tom Cruise, and he liked it. It was a very lovely experience.”
Looking Ahead to the Stage and Studio
As she prepares for the extensive production awaiting her at the Auditorio Nacional, Aguilar maintains a clear perspective on the hard work and audience connection that have fueled her current success. When asked to describe 2026 from the perspective of her professional trajectory, she points directly to the unwavering support of her listeners.
“It’s been a very beautiful year for me,” Aguilar says. “I’ve had so much work, thank God, with nominations and a few awards. But most importantly, the public supports me, and that’s why things happen.”
Her vision for the upcoming concert goes far beyond a single evening. Promising a performance lasting at least two hours, she details a dynamic musical journey divided between the deeply sentimental resonance of the mariachi and the high-energy party atmosphere of the banda. With seven confirmed guest artists who immediately accepted her invitation, the night is shaping up to be a definitive milestone in her career.
“It will be at least two hours long, and so far I can reveal that I have seven confirmed guests,” she notes. “I’m happy because everyone I invited immediately said yes. I will have both mariachi and banda, offering two very different moments. Mariachi is very sentimental, while banda brings the party and total chaos.”
Discussing the creative impetus behind Caprichos, which translates to “Caprices” in English, Aguilar reveals that the album emerged organically from her deep-seated love for songs she has cherished throughout her life. Following the completion of an album consisting entirely of original material, she found herself revisiting classic tracks and deciding to capture them in the studio.
“The title Caprichos reflects that these are personal whims,” she explains. “These tracks aren’t necessarily banda or mariachi, but I arranged them that way. I love them all, which is why they’re included. If I had to choose favorites, ‘Por Debajo de la Mesa’ and ‘Almohada’ come to mind. ‘Vete’ is a self-love anthem I wrote, and ‘No Vuelvas’ is my other original song.”
With a landmark venue performance imminent, a new album dropping, and further recording projects lined up, the momentum surrounding Majo Aguilar shows no signs of slowing down. Looking past the close of the current year and toward the horizon of 2027, the singer is already hard at work mapping out her next artistic chapter, ensuring that her voice will remain a defining force in the ongoing evolution of Mexican music.
