Why Great Leaders Need to Know Every Side of the Business: Inside Hector Amendola’s Vision for SimplyPMG

When Hector Amendola talks about his company, he can summarize its core mission in a single breath. As the president of SimplyPMG, a Las Vegas-based national mortgage bank, he oversees an organization that has built its reputation on efficiency, specifically mastering how to keep down the cost of manufacturing a loan. The company’s tagline—"Simpler process, better price"—serves as a concise distillation of an idea that is straightforward in theory yet demanding in execution.

"It’s a reminder to us every day," Amendola explains, reflecting on the philosophy that guides the enterprise. "We’re trying to make sure that we’re serving the customer first."

SimplyPMG, which was formerly known as Panorama Mortgage Group, adopted its new name to better reflect that ongoing promise to its customers. However, Amendola is quick to clarify a vital distinction regarding the nature of the industry: while what the company does is ultimately designed to look seamless to the consumer, the mechanics behind it are anything but simple. Navigating the modern mortgage landscape requires balancing regulatory compliance, market volatility, underwriting standards, and operational logistics. The overarching goal is to absorb that complexity internally so that the end user never has to bear the burden of the friction.

"Our job is to make the process as simple as possible," the president notes. "That does not make it simple."

That deep-seated understanding of the mortgage industry’s intricate machinery does not happen overnight. Amendola brings more than twenty-two years of extensive experience in mortgage lending to the executive suite. Over the course of more than two decades in the field, he has worked across nearly every facet of the business. He has processed loans from the ground up, worked directly with clients as a loan officer, managed local branches, and overseen large corporate divisions on his path to executive leadership. Because of this comprehensive hands-on background, whatever operational issue or market hurdle arises within the organization, there is a strong likelihood that Amendola has already encountered, navigated, and resolved it at some point in his career.

Yet, despite more than twenty years of industry immersion, Amendola maintains a philosophy of perpetual learning. He vividly recalls a milestone moment roughly a decade into his professional journey when he attended an industry conference and walked out feeling humbled, realizing just how much he still had left to discover about the ever-changing mortgage sector. That realization left a permanent mark on his approach to leadership and personal growth.

Hector Amendola Comes to AVANCE Global to Renew His Inspiration

"There’s still more for you to know," Amendola says, emphasizing the danger of complacency in executive roles. "The minute you think you know everything, that’s probably when you’re in trouble."

That exact mindset is what consistently drives him to attend major industry events like AVANCE Global year after year. The high-profile conference, hosted at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, serves as a massive gathering space for professionals across the sector. Most recently, the multi-day event drew a crowd of more than 5,000 attendees and featured nearly 400 speakers over the course of three intensive days of networking, keynote presentations, and strategic discussions.

For Amendola, attending the event in his home base of Las Vegas is geographically convenient, but he maintains that he would make the trip no matter where the conference was hosted. Reflecting on his trajectory, he notes that early in his career, he deliberately made a point of surrounding himself with high-achievers—professionals who were already occupying the spaces and achieving the goals he aspired to reach. Now, with decades of leadership experience under his belt, he finds himself on the other side of that equation, having the opportunity to serve as that mentor and source of guidance for newer professionals entering the field.

The mortgage and lending business has weathered several turbulent and challenging years, marked by shifting interest rates, fluctuating housing inventories, and broader economic headwinds. In light of these pressures, Amendola points out that loan officers and industry professionals whose spirits or morale might be running low would be wise to seek out strong professional communities like the one fostered at AVANCE Global. Finding shared purpose, learning from peers, and reconnecting with the bigger picture can provide the necessary spark to navigate difficult economic cycles.

During the conference, numerous sessions and keynote presentations offered fresh perspectives on leadership, motivation, and strategic planning. One specific takeaway from a keynote address has notably resonated with Amendola long after the event concluded. Executive coach and keynote speaker René Rodriguez delivered a powerful message to the gathered crowd, asserting that if an individual or a leader does not intentionally design a plan for their career and business, they will inevitably end up becoming a part of someone else’s plan.

"That was so deep," Amendola reflects, summarizing the impact of the session. "You come here to be inspired, and, believe me, I was."
