Julián Álvarez Embraces His Roots with the Release of Anticipated Mariachi EP ‘Ranchero de Corazón’

From Guadalajara, Jalisco, the historic heartland of mariachi music, renowned regional Mexican star Julián Álvarez has officially introduced his latest musical chapter. Widely celebrated by fans and industry insiders alike as “El Rey de la Taquilla” (The King of the Box Office), Álvarez unveiled his highly anticipated four-song EP, Ranchero de Corazón, via his independent record label, Copar Music. The release marks a profound and deliberate shift for an artist who has spent decades dominating the norteño and banda charts, offering a fresh, emotional exploration of Mexico’s most iconic traditional sound.

For Álvarez, stepping into the realm of mariachi is more than just a stylistic detour; it is the fulfillment of a long-held personal ambition and a tribute to a genre he has deeply revered throughout his career. While his signature sound has traditionally been anchored in the accordion-driven norteño rhythms and the brass-heavy arrangements of banda music, mariachi has always held a special place in his heart.

“I’ve always enjoyed having mariachi at some of my performances, until finally, a few years ago, I put on the charro suit and asked my colleagues for advice on how to wear it properly,” Álvarez shared in an interview with Billboard. “Mariachi is sacred to me, and now, with my family here and my daughters born in this city, this project holds an even more special meaning.”

The creation of Ranchero de Corazón was a meticulous process rooted in deep respect for the traditions of mariachi music. Produced entirely by Álvarez himself, the EP features carefully crafted compositions by Alfonso de la Cruz Pecas, one of the singer’s most trusted creative collaborators over the past sixteen years. The project also benefits from the songwriting talents of Hansen Flores and César Estrada Moreno, ensuring that the lyrics match the emotional gravity and storytelling tradition inherent in classic ranchera music.

Taking the leap into a new genre required patience and a commitment to authenticity. According to those close to the production, the team spent considerable time ensuring that every detail, from the vocal delivery to the acoustic arrangements, honored the legacy of the genre.

“It took us some time to take the plunge, but we wanted to do it right, with a lot of respect,” noted Alfonso de la Cruz Pecas, who penned both “Llévala a la luna” and the EP’s evocative title track. Looking ahead, De la Cruz Pecas hinted that the reception from listeners will help dictate the future of this musical direction. “Now it will be the audience who determines the path and direction of the project,” he added, leaving the door open for more ranchera music in the future.

Julión Álvarez Pays Tribute to Mariachi With New EP ‘Ranchero de Corazón’: ‘Mariachi Is Sacred to Me’

The release of Ranchero de Corazón arrives at a time of remarkable professional achievement for Álvarez. His career is defined by historic milestones, massive commercial success, and enduring popularity across Latin America and the United States. Earlier this year, Álvarez made history by becoming the first Latin artist to completely sell out three consecutive concerts at the prestigious SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, cementing his status as a powerhouse touring act. Furthermore, his enduring impact on the regional Mexican landscape was recognized when he was featured on Billboard’s definitive list of The 75 Best Regional Mexican Music Artists. That distinction was backed by formidable chart statistics, including an impressive 37 entries on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart and five No. 1 albums on the Regional Mexican Albums chart.

To celebrate the release of the EP and introduce the roster of artists signed to Copar Music, Álvarez hosted an intimate press gathering at the Baruk Hotel de Autor GDL. True to his down-to-earth persona and reputation as a warm, approachable figure, the singer eschewed formal attire for the listening session. He arrived dressed comfortably in denim, wearing a button-down shirt, boots, and a classic cowboy hat, radiating the joyful energy that has endeared him to millions of fans throughout his career.

Accompanied by his mother and other close family members, Álvarez transformed the press event into a vibrant celebration. Rather than remaining isolated in a VIP area, he moved effortlessly through the venue, dancing, singing, and personally greeting every member of the media in attendance. He posed for photographs with the waitstaff, mingled with employees working at the site’s coffee and tequila bars, and embraced the role of the ultimate host. Embodying his well-known reputation as a “friend to everyone,” he poured shots of tequila, invited guests to the dance floor, and even grabbed the microphone to sing, brushing aside concerns about preserving his vocal stamina for his upcoming stadium performances.

That balance of celebration and professional dedication was necessary, as the EP release served as the prelude to one of the biggest concert weekends of his career. Following the press event, Álvarez prepared for two monumental back-to-back performances at the iconic Estadio Jalisco, scheduled for September 25 and 26. Each night is expected to draw a crowd of more than 48,000 enthusiastic fans. The second evening of the stadium run forms part of his widely successful joint tour alongside fellow regional Mexican star Alfredo Olivas, titled Prófugos del Anexo.

With Ranchero de Corazón, Julián Álvarez successfully bridges his contemporary success with the timeless traditions of Mexican folk music. As the EP makes its way to streaming platforms and radio airwaves, it opens a compelling new chapter for an artist who continues to define the sound and spirit of regional Mexican music.
