Shakira Closes Historic Madrid Residency With Star-Studded Finale and 700,000 Fans

A Grand Farewell at Macondo Park

Shakira wanted to end her European residency in Madrid on a high note, and for her 13th and final concert, she surrounded herself with an exceptional group of musical friends. The Colombian superstar brought her monumental European run to a close on Monday, Oct. 12, drawing a massive crowd to Macondo Park for a night filled with high-energy performances, guest collaborations, and emotional goodbyes. Maluma, Laura Pausini, Beéle, Dani Martín, and Bizarrap all joined the icon on stage for one unforgettable evening. The grand finale also featured vibrant dancers from the Carnival of Barranquilla, an elaborate drone display, and a visibly emotional Shakira bidding farewell to a country that holds a profound place in her heart.

The concert series, which initially began with just 8 scheduled dates before expanding to 13 due to overwhelming demand, ultimately drew around 700,000 people to Macondo Park, according to the artist. Announced a week earlier under the banner "The Last Dance," Monday’s concert brought the residency to a triumphant finish following four consecutive performances held between Oct. 9 and Oct. 12. Notably, the final night coincided with Spain’s National Day, known as Día de la Hispanidad, infusing the celebration with a strong and vibrant display of Latin culture.

Reflecting on the scale of the achievement, Shakira addressed the roaring crowd early in the evening. "There has been a before and after for me. It’s all felt like a dream, and honestly, I don’t want to leave," she told the audience. "It’s going to be very, very hard to leave Spain again." Moments later, she teased the crowd with a promise to leave nothing on the table. "I’ve prepared so many, many surprises for you tonight. Tonight, I’m not holding anything back. I’m going to give you everything, everything, everything I have, because there’s nothing like when a she-wolf meets her pack."

Star-Studded Collaborations and Hometown Flavor

True to her word, the night was packed with musical surprises from the very beginning. The first major guest appearance came from Maluma, who returned to the stage for the second night in a row to perform their hit collaborations "Chantaje" and "Agua" alongside Shakira. The undeniable chemistry between the two Colombian artists prompted some playful banter on stage. "We’ve already done four songs together; we should form a group called Shaluma," Shakira joked to her compatriot. Maluma eagerly responded that he was more than ready to create many more songs with her in the future.

Later in the evening, Shakira paused the fast-paced show for several minutes to speak directly to the audience, taking time to thank everyone who made possible what she described as one of the most important projects of her career. "This residency has been historic for me," she shared, adding that the journey had also brought difficult moments behind the scenes, including her father’s health issues and other personal challenges. She credited the unwavering support of her fans for giving her the strength to step on stage every night "with total joy and a full heart… You’ve made me feel like I’m just starting my career, and I will never forget that."

The superstar extended her gratitude to everyone who had contributed to the massive production at Macondo Park, including Sony Music, Live Nation, her dedicated band, and her crew of musicians and dancers. According to Shakira, more than 10,000 people worked tirelessly behind the scenes on the production of the show and the sprawling themed city that was constructed around the stadium. In a particularly heartfelt moment, she also thanked her ex Antonio de la Rúa—who remains a close current collaborator—introducing him to the audience as "a great friend, a soul friend" and highlighting his vital support during the tour and his meticulous work on the creation and details of the project.

Following her expressions of gratitude, Italian superstar Laura Pausini took the stage, introduced by Shakira as "the cherry on top." Pausini returned to the residency to deliver a powerful duet of "Antología," reprising the collaboration from one of the earliest nights of the event. Before singing, Pausini took a moment to praise Shakira’s enduring legacy and the profound impact of her career on younger generations of artists. "You are a lesson for so many," Pausini said. "Just imagine our younger colleagues who see the immense example that you are of a long and very solid career."

The parade of guests continued with Dani Martín, the former lead singer of El Canto del Loco and one of the most celebrated names in Spanish pop-rock, who joined Shakira for a rousing rendition of "Te Dejo Madrid." Shakira introduced him with a clever nod to the song’s lyrics: "Today, I’m going to sing this with a Madrileño who won’t break my heart." Shortly after, urban artist Beéle stepped out to perform "Algo Tú," while a troupe of dancers from the Carnival of Barranquilla flooded the stage. Their performance brought the infectious energy of Shakira’s Colombian hometown celebration directly into the heart of Madrid on Spain’s National Day. The vibrant musical parade continued as Ghetto Kids joined the celebration for a lively performance of "Dai Dai."

A Record-Breaking Production and Grand Finale

The final performance underscored just how far the ambitious residency had come since its inception. "When they proposed doing eight concerts here in Madrid, I thought it would be impossible," Shakira reflected to the crowd. "And look, today is our 13th show. Someone pinch me, please, so I know if this is real or not." The sheer scale of the engagement, which ultimately drew roughly 700,000 attendees to the custom-built Shakira Stadium, cemented the residency as a historic milestone in contemporary live entertainment.

Throughout the nearly month-long run, the energy remained electric both on stage and across the vast audiences filling Macondo Park. Purple wigs and chain belts adorned with coins became a ubiquitous uniform among attendees, who enthusiastically embraced iconic visual motifs from various definitive eras of Shakira’s storied career. As the final night drew toward its conclusion, the night sky above the venue came alive with a coordinated drone display. The lights first shifted to trace the magnificent shape of a she-wolf before forming a giant "12+1" in the night air, playfully marking the unique number of shows that defined the residency’s expanded run.

Still, the evening had one final surprise in store for the ecstatic crowd. For the grand finale, Argentine producer Bizarrap emerged from backstage, stepping behind the turntable to perform "Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53" alongside the singer. The explosive collaboration kept the party atmosphere roaring until the very final moments of "The Last Dance," bringing nearly a month of unforgettable music, culture, and celebration in Madrid to a spectacular close.
