Brazilian Biotech Startup BioLinker Secures $1.7M to Advance DNA Synthesis and AI-Driven Research in the Amazon

Brazilian biotechnology startup BioLinker has successfully raised $1.7 million in a new funding round to accelerate its synthetic biology operations, expand its domestic DNA production capabilities, and lay the groundwork for cutting-edge artificial intelligence applications in scientific research. The investment was spearheaded by Axcell, which contributed $1.4 million to the round, alongside approximately $240,000 provided by the São Paulo Research Foundation through its PIPE Phase 2 program.

The injection of fresh capital marks a significant milestone for the young company, which was founded in 2018 by a group of scientists and researchers hailing from the University of São Paulo. Since its inception, BioLinker has carved out a distinct niche within the Latin American life sciences sector by focusing on the development and manufacturing of recombinant proteins. Utilizing advanced techniques in synthetic biology and genetic engineering, the company creates specialized proteins and reagents that serve critical functions across multiple sectors, including scientific research, diagnostic testing, and various industrial applications.

With the newly acquired funds, BioLinker is setting its sights on a transformative geographical and technological expansion. The startup plans to establish a state-of-the-art, automated laboratory facility located at the Amazon BioBusiness Center in Manaus. This strategic move into the heart of the Amazon region is designed to leverage robotics and high-throughput automation to generate vast amounts of biological data at scale. According to the company’s strategic roadmap, this massive influx of biological data will be directly utilized to train and refine complex artificial intelligence models, bridging the gap between advanced computational technologies and biological engineering while simultaneously expanding domestic DNA production capabilities within Brazil.

In tandem with its infrastructure and technology investments, BioLinker is also preparing for substantial organizational growth. The startup intends to double the size of its workforce, scaling its team from its current headcount of 12 employees up to 24. This expansion will bring in specialized talent across biotechnology, data science, robotics, and laboratory operations to support the scaling of its automated facility and the acceleration of its research and development pipelines.

Despite the successful closure of this latest infusion of capital, BioLinker’s current funding round remains actively open. Company leadership is currently engaged in discussions to bring an international investor on board to provide additional strategic support, global networks, and capital ahead of a larger, highly anticipated Series A funding round scheduled to take place within the next two years.

Operating on a solid business foundation, BioLinker already generates recurring revenue through its commercialized products and services. Management projects that the newly secured $1.7 million will provide a robust financial runway, comfortably funding three full years of continued operations and strategic expansion without immediate cash flow pressures. As the startup prepares to break ground on its automated laboratory in Manaus and scales its operations toward its upcoming Series A milestones, it continues to position itself as a key driver of synthetic biology, domestic biotech innovation, and AI-enabled scientific discovery in Brazil.
