Brazilian Biotech Startup BioLinker Secures $1.7M to Advance DNA Synthesis and AI-Driven Research in the Amazon

Brazilian biotechnology startup BioLinker has successfully raised $1.7 million in a new funding round as it looks to accelerate its pioneering work in synthetic biology, recombinant protein manufacturing, and artificial intelligence integration. The fresh capital injection is set to fuel the company’s ambitious expansion plans, which include the establishment of a cutting-edge automated laboratory in the heart of the Amazon region.

The investment round was anchored by venture capital firm Axcell, which contributed $1.4 million to the biotechnology enterprise. Additional support came from the São Paulo Research Foundation, known as FAPESP, which provided approximately $240,000 through its PIPE Phase 2 program, a government-backed initiative designed to foster innovative research and development within small businesses in the state of São Paulo.

Founded in 2018 by a team of visionary scientists hailing from the University of São Paulo, BioLinker has quickly established itself as a notable player in the Latin American biotechnology sector. The company specializes in the development and manufacture of recombinant proteins using advanced techniques in synthetic biology and genetic engineering. These specialized products play a crucial role in supporting scientific research, medical diagnostics, and a wide variety of industrial applications. By engineering proteins with high precision, BioLinker provides essential tools for laboratories and industries that rely on biological agents for testing, product development, and analytical processes.

BioLinker raises $1.7M to build automated biotech lab in the Amazon

The newly secured funds will be deployed strategically, with a significant portion dedicated to constructing a state-of-the-art automated laboratory located at the Amazon BioBusiness Center in Manaus. This facility represents a major operational milestone for the startup. By leveraging advanced robotics, the new laboratory will be capable of generating biological data at scale. This influx of high-volume data will serve a critical function: training sophisticated artificial intelligence models and expanding domestic DNA production capabilities within Brazil. Integrating automation and robotics into biological research allows companies to drastically reduce the time and labor required to synthesize complex genetic materials and analyze experimental outcomes.

In tandem with its technological and physical expansion, BioLinker is also focusing heavily on scaling its human capital. The startup currently operates with a lean team of 12 employees. With the infusion of new capital, the company plans to double its workforce, bringing its total headcount to 24 employees. This workforce expansion will encompass specialized scientific talent, software and AI engineers, and operational staff necessary to support the growing demands of the automated laboratory and ongoing research initiatives.

Despite securing $1.7 million in this latest financing event, BioLinker’s funding round remains actively open. Company leadership is currently seeking an international investor to join the syndicate, a strategic move intended to provide global expertise and support broader expansion efforts ahead of a planned Series A funding round expected to take place within the next two years.

From a financial standpoint, BioLinker already enjoys a stable foundation characterized by recurring revenue streams. Company executives expect that the capital secured from Axcell and FAPESP, combined with its ongoing sales, will be sufficient to comfortably fund three years of continuous operations. This financial runway provides the startup with the stability needed to complete its Manaus facility, scale its AI training models, and build market momentum as it prepares for its future institutional financing milestones.
