Brazilian Fintech A5X Secures $70 Million in Series D Funding to Challenge B3 Monopoly with New Derivatives Exchange

Brazilian financial technology landscape is undergoing a monumental shift as A5X, an ambitious startup aiming to redefine the nation’s capital markets, announced that it has successfully raised $70 million in a Series D funding round. The substantial capital injection was co-led by some of the most prominent names in global finance and venture capital, including Wall Street giants Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, alongside Latin America-focused powerhouse Kaszek. This latest financial milestone brings the young company’s valuation to an impressive approximately $525 million, underscoring strong institutional confidence in its vision to introduce a competitive derivatives exchange to Latin America’s largest economy.

The funding round also saw robust participation from a formidable cohort of existing investors, highlighting continued backing from key international trading and clearing institutions. Among those returning to support A5X are IMC, Jump Trading, Optiver, XTX Markets, XP, and ABN AMRO Clearing. This deep pool of returning backers—many of whom are global leaders in market making, proprietary trading, and electronic execution—provides A5X not only with vital financial resources but also with unmatched technical expertise and market connectivity as the company prepares to scale its operations.

Founded relatively recently in 2023, A5X has moved at a breakneck pace to position itself as a serious contender to Brazil’s legacy market infrastructure. The core mission of the fintech is to build and operate a cutting-edge derivatives exchange designed to compete directly with B3, the dominant stock and derivatives exchange based in São Paulo that has historically held a near-monopoly on Brazilian market trading and post-trade infrastructure. By introducing a modern alternative for derivatives trading, A5X aims to enhance market efficiency, lower transaction costs, and provide participants with greater optionality and technological sophistication.

A5X raises $70M Series D

Achieving this level of technological sophistication requires world-class infrastructure, and A5X has strategically partnered with established global giants to build its operational backbone. The Brazilian fintech uniquely combines state-of-the-art trading and clearing technology sourced from the London Stock Exchange Group with bespoke infrastructure specifically developed and tailored for the nuances, regulatory framework, and demands of the Brazilian market. This hybrid approach allows A5X to leverage battle-tested, high-performance global systems while ensuring seamless integration with local financial systems and regulatory standards.

The fresh capital from the Series D round will be instrumental in accelerating the development, testing, and eventual commercial launch of this new exchange, as well as expanding the organization’s human capital. A5X has already grown rapidly since its inception, currently boasting a robust team of more than 200 employees. This talented workforce comprises experts in financial engineering, market infrastructure, software development, compliance, and institutional relations, all working together to bring the exchange to life.

The newly announced $70 million raise follows closely on the heels of another significant fundraising milestone achieved just months prior. In September 2025, A5X successfully closed a previous funding round that brought in approximately $39 million. The rapid cadence of these capital raises—culminating in this latest Series D—demonstrates both the high capital expenditure required to build a modern financial exchange from the ground up and the extraordinary investor appetite for disruptive financial infrastructure plays in emerging markets.

As A5X continues to build out its technology, expand its team, and navigate the regulatory pathways required to launch an independent derivatives exchange in Brazil, the broader financial community will be watching closely. The entry of a well-capitalized, technologically advanced competitor into the Brazilian exchange landscape has the potential to reshape market dynamics, foster greater liquidity, and attract increased domestic and international institutional participation to the region’s capital markets.
