Brazilian Biotech Startup BioLinker Secures $1.7M to Scale DNA Synthesis and AI Infrastructure in the Amazon

Brazilian biotechnology startup BioLinker has successfully raised $1.7 million in a new funding round as it looks to accelerate its synthetic biology and artificial intelligence initiatives. The injection of capital marks a significant milestone for the firm, which specializes in the development and manufacturing of recombinant proteins for research, diagnostics, and industrial applications.

The funding round was spearheaded by Axcell, a prominent investment firm that contributed $1.4 million to the round. Additional financial support came from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), which provided approximately $240,000 through its PIPE Phase 2 program, a government-backed initiative designed to support small businesses engaged in innovative research and development.

Founded in 2018 by a team of scientists and researchers from the University of São Paulo, BioLinker has steadily carved out a niche in Latin America’s burgeoning life sciences sector. The company leverages advanced synthetic biology and genetic engineering techniques to produce high-quality recombinant proteins. These biological components serve as critical building blocks for a wide range of commercial and scientific uses, including academic research, clinical diagnostics, and various industrial manufacturing processes.

BioLinker raises $1.7M to build automated biotech lab in the Amazon

With the newly secured capital, BioLinker is preparing to embark on a major operational expansion. A core component of this strategy involves the construction of a cutting-edge, automated laboratory located at the Amazon BioBusiness Center in Manaus. This facility is designed to harness advanced robotics to generate biological data at scale. By automating the data collection process, BioLinker aims to gather the extensive datasets required to train and refine sophisticated artificial intelligence models, while simultaneously expanding its domestic DNA production capabilities within Brazil.

The geographic positioning of the new laboratory in Manaus highlights a strategic commitment to leveraging the unique biodiversity and technological hubs developing within the Amazon region. Alongside its infrastructure investments, BioLinker plans to scale its workforce significantly. The company intends to double the size of its team, growing from its current staff of 12 employees to a total of 24 as it ramps up its research, production, and technological capabilities.

Despite the successful closure of this latest infusion of capital, BioLinker’s funding round remains actively open. The startup is currently seeking to bring on board an international strategic investor to support its broader global expansion plans. This ongoing fundraising effort is designed to pave the way for a major Series A financing round anticipated within the next two years.

Unlike many early-stage biotech ventures that rely solely on continuous venture capital injections to sustain burning cash flows, BioLinker operates with a steady stream of recurring revenue from its commercialized products and services. Company leadership expects that the new capital, combined with its existing revenue streams, will be sufficient to fully fund three years of continuous operations, providing a stable runway for the startup to achieve its technical and commercial milestones.
