Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and Café Bustelo Announce 2026-27 El Café del Futuro Scholarship Recipients

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), in proud partnership with Café Bustelo®, has officially announced the selection of the 25 outstanding recipients for the prestigious Café Bustelo® El Café del Futuro Scholarship for the 2026-27 academic year. Each of these exceptional students, who currently attend HACU-member institutions across the country, will be awarded a $5,000 scholarship designed to alleviate the financial pressures of higher education and support their continued academic journey.

This latest announcement marks another milestone in a long-standing collaboration aimed at fostering educational equity and creating tangible opportunities for Hispanic and minority students. By providing these financial awards, the partnership seeks to ensure that promising young scholars can focus more intensely on their studies, research, and professional development rather than the daunting costs often associated with pursuing a college degree.

Café Bustelo® has long maintained a deep-rooted passion for investing in the vibrant communities it has proudly served for generations. Through the ongoing administration of the El Café del Futuro Scholarship Program, the brand intentionally celebrates students who draw profound strength, motivation, and inspiration from their cultural heritage, families, and communities as they actively pursue their long-term educational and career goals.

Higher education experts frequently note that financial barriers remain one of the most formidable obstacles for first-generation and underrepresented college students. By actively helping to remove these monetary hurdles, Café Bustelo® demonstrates a steadfast commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers. These students are expected to not only excel within their respective fields of study but also to continue uplifting their local communities and professions long after they graduate.

The impact of this enduring partnership is substantial and measurable. Since the inception of the scholarship program in 2014, Café Bustelo® has awarded an impressive $1,050,000 in total scholarships to 210 deserving students nationwide. This cumulative milestone reflects the brand’s enduring dedication to investing directly in students and honoring the dynamic communities that have helped shape the identity and culture of Café Bustelo® over many decades.

The selection process for the 2026-27 academic year was both competitive and deeply reflective of the personal experiences shaping modern higher education. As an essential part of the scholarship application requirements, prospective recipients were asked to provide thoughtful, personal essays detailing several aspects of their lives. Students shared meaningful accounts of how they actively celebrate their unique cultural heritage with their families, friends, and broader communities. Furthermore, applicants described how those formative cultural experiences and community ties directly influenced their personal desire to pursue and earn a college degree. Finally, candidates outlined their forward-looking plans for how they intend to utilize their college education to support, give back to, and uplift their communities and professional fields in the future.

The 25 scholars chosen for the 2026-27 academic year represent a diverse array of academic disciplines, personal backgrounds, and geographic locations, all united by their dedication to academic excellence and cultural pride. Their selection highlights the diverse talent pool thriving within HACU-member institutions, which include Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and other colleges and universities committed to educational opportunity.

This scholarship initiative operates as an integral component of the broader 2026-27 HACU Scholarship Program, which annually connects corporate partners with ambitious students seeking to bridge the financial gap in their college financing. Through such collaborative efforts, HACU continues to expand its reach and effectiveness in advocating for Hispanic higher education success on a national scale.
